Carrickmacross’s Farney Country Music Festival takes place over three nights on the August Bank Holiday weekend, in a heated marquee in The Fiddlers Car park, thousands expected to attend.
“We believe we have the best bands in country music on over three nights. I think our main entertainers are unchallenged at the top of the country music charts,” Seamus ‘Banty’ McEnaney told was quoted.
The organiser and proprietor of the Fiddler’s Bistro and Vanity Nightclub, observed that all of the headline acts were award winners at the recent inaugural RTÉ Irish Country Music Awards:
Nathan Carter (Live Act of the Year) will headline on Saturday night, Derek Ryan (Songwriter of the Year) will take to the stage on Sunday night, while a real treat is in store on Bank Holiday Monday because both Lisa McHugh (Female Artist of the Year) and Mike Denver (Entertainer of the Year), will bring the festival to a close on a high note.
The support acts are also sure to prove a big draw for crowds with Lee Matthews (who burst onto the scene in 2013) on Saturday night and Monaghan’s-own Marty Mone’s Mad Ass Mules on Sunday night.
The festival will get off to a flying start on Saturday evening 7pm with the jiving competition, something which Seamus feels has become synonymous with the country music scene. First prize is a weekend away for two.
Although this is the fifth annual festival, it is the fourth where organisers are keeping it country:
“This is the fourth time we have kept it all country for the weekend and it has certainly worked for us. It has grown year-on-year and people from all over the country have travelled to it. We’re expecting to build in the success of last year, especially after the success of the Monaghan Town Country Music Festival,” Seamus said.
The organiser went on to observe that there had been an upsurge in the popularity of country music throughout Ireland in recent years too.
Seamus was at the Monaghan Town Country Music Festival himself: “It’s a great credit to the organisers of the Monaghan Town Country Music Festival to bring such brilliant musicians to the town of Monaghan and to promote country music in the county.”
And as for the event closer to home, the Farney Country Music Festival, he said: “I think it’s a brilliant occasion for the town of Carrickmacross — bars, restaurants, shops, hotels, accommodation — It benefits everybody in the town.”
Admission every night is €20 payable at the door. Doors open every night at 8pm, with the exception of Saturday night, when doors open at 6.30pm for the jiving competition.
The support acts will be on stage at 9pm sharp, with the main acts following suit at 11pm.
Don’t forget to get raffle tickets because first prize is a Country and Western Cruise for two!
Corduff Gael’s Strictly Jailhouse Rocks will take over the marquee on the Friday night immediately before the festival. Seamus is also chairman of the club for which the fundraiser is being held.
Attendees of the festival will be able to avail of half price admission to Vanity Nightclub.
